S.C. Department of Public Safety announces six road deaths
South Carolina Department of Public Safety officials said there were six people killed on South Carolina roadways during the Thanksgiving holiday period, which ran from Dec. 11 to Dec. 13.
All six deaths occurred on a US routes, SC roads or secondary roads, according to officials. Of the six people killed, four were not wearing seat belts, one was listed as “unknown” for seat belt use and the sixth death was recorded as a pedestrian fatality.
As of Dec. 13, 899 people have died on the state’s highways, compared to 768 highway deaths during the same time period in 2014. Of the 595 motor vehicle occupants killed in 2015, 303 were not wearing seat belts.
Officials said 106 pedestrians have died compared to 101 in 2014, 126 motorcyclists have died compared to 85 in 2014 and 14 bicyclists have died compared to 13 in 2014.
