Sumter County deputies charged man who broke into home of sleeping victim
Sumter County deputies have charged a Wedgefield man with burglary after he entered a home Monday morning where a victim was sleeping.
Officials said 32-year-old Jacoby Richardson has been charged with first-degree burglary in connection with the incident.
An arrest warrant filed in the case alleged that Richardson entered the residence by ripping a window screen. After entering the home, the warrant said the victim woke up and forced the suspect from the home.
At around 2 a.m., Sumter County deputies were called to the scene and one of the department’s K-9 units was able to successfully track Richardson to a residence in the 800 block of David Austin Road, the warrant said.
Richardson later admitted his involvement in the incident to deputies, officials said.
Richardson was transported to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center where he will be held pending a bond hearing.
