Richland County Sheriff seeking suspects in gas station shooting that left one dead

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the community’s help in locating two suspects wanted for murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred at a gas station Sunday night that left one person dead and another injured.

Jeremy Davis, of Columbia, died of complications from a gunshot wound to the upper body, said Richland County Coroner Gary Watts. Richland County deputies are continuing to investigate what led to the 20-year-old’s death.

Deputies were dispatched to the Spinx Gas Station located at 101 Lee Rd., near the intersection of Hard Scrabble Rd., in reference to a shots-fired call, said Lt. Curtis Wilson, a sheriff’s department spokesman.

When deputies arrived, Wilson said they located Davis, who was dead at the scene and another victim who had several lacerations to the upper body after being beaten with a handgun. The second victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

In a statement, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Davis and the other victim were seated inside a vehicle parked behind the Spinx Gas Station, when two black men walked up to the vehicle and attempted to rob them leading to an altercation where Davis was shot and the second victim was beaten.

The suspects fled the area on foot, according to Lott, who added that video surveillance from the store captured images of the suspects, both described as being in their early 20s. The first suspect had long dreadlocks and a yellow shirt with black stripes, said Lott, who also said the second suspect had a low haircut with a black and white two toned shirt. Lott said the suspects are considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1 (888)-CRIME-SC.
