Richland County deputies charge 18 year old with attempted armed robbery
Richland County deputies have charged a teenager with attempted armed robbery after police say he attempted to hold a 67-year-old woman at gunpoint Monday evening.
Lt. Curtis Wilson, a department spokesman, said 18-year-old Trimaine Harris has been charged with attempted armed robbery in connection with the incident.
Wilson said deputies responded to the 1400 block of Farrington Way, near Broad River Road, at 10 p.m. after receiving reports of the attempted armed robbery. Deputies met with the victim who said she was in her vehicle in the parking lot of the Farrington Way Apartments when Harris approached her and demanded she open the door.
When the victim refused, Wilson said, Harris jumped on and back off of the vehicle and presented a handgun and demanded the victim open the door. The victim then sped off and drove to a nearby business.
Wilson said the victim later saw the suspect in the 1500 block of St. Andrews Road, which is where he was taken into custody by deputies without incident.
Harris was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he is being held pending a bond hearing.
