2 arrested for murder after gas station armed robbery

Two suspects have been arrested after a botched armed robbery led to a death Dec. 13, law enforcement officials say.

Ibn Gadson, 19, and Ryan Alston, 21, each was charged with murder, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of assault and battery, and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, according to a release Wednesday from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

The Richland County Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Office arrested Gadson on Saturday at his residence in Berkeley County, according to the release. Alston was arrested on Tuesday at his residence, also in Berkeley County.

Investigators were able to find the suspects after identifying the vehicle used in the crime, according to Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott.

Lott said that on Dec. 13, Gadson and Alston assaulted two male victims who were sitting inside their vehicle parked at Spinx Gas Station on Lee Road near Hard Scrabble Road. The suspects approached the victims intending to rob them. After they assaulted both victims, Alston shot 20-year old Jeremy Davis in the upper body, killing him, according to the sheriff. The second victim suffered cuts and bruises to the upper body and was transported to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

Gadson and Alston were taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
