SCE&G to test lights, sirens on Lower Saluda River

South Carolina Electric and Gas officials said they will be testing the Lower Saluda River’s warning sirens and strobe lights Wednesday afternoon.

Officials said the tests will be conducted around 1 p.m. The lights and sirens are used to warn recreational visitors about the river’s rising water levels.

Recent heavy rains have caused water levels to rise, and officials are advising Lower Saluda River residents and visitors to use caution when they are near or in the river. The Lower Saluda River begins at the Lake Murray Dam and ends where the Saluda and Broad rivers meet to form the Congaree River.

SCE&G officials are encouraging the public to monitor the Lower Saluda River levels online at www.sceg.com/about-us/lower-saluda-river, as well as registering to receive phone call alerts regarding water levels on the river.
