Sumter police investigate fatal shooting at apartment complex

Sumter police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place at an apartment complex Wednesday evening that killed one, according to officials.

Officials said officers responded to the Poplar Square apartment complex on Miller Road at 6:45 p.m. in reference to a shots-fired call. When officers arrived, officials said they found a 23-year-old man unresponsive in an outside area of one of the buildings. He was later pronounced dead.

Officials have not yet released the name of victim but will do so when family or next-of-kin has been notified.
