New Year’s Day shooting sends two to hospital

A 41-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting Friday night.

Columbia police were called to the scene on the 1100 block of King Street around 7 p.m., chief Skip Holbrook saidMa in a news release.

The woman had been shot in the leg and thigh. The man had been shot in the lower back side, Holbrook said.

Police have appealed to the public for information about the assailant or assailants. At this writing, the police say they do not know if the victims know their attackers.
