One dead after crash near Elgin

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC One person is dead after a crash near Elgin on Saturday evening.

The wreck happened at 6:15 p.m. on Smyrna Road, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. A 1995 Chevrolet was traveling north when the driver crossed the center line and struck a 2001 Toyota pickup truck that was traveling south.

The driver of the Chevrolet was not wearing a seat belt, and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Toyota and a passenger were taken to Palmetto Health Richland. Their injuries were serious but not life-threatening, officials said.

This collision remains under investigation.
