Three killed on roadways in South Carolina in 2016
South Carolina Department of Public Safety officials said there have been three road deaths so far in 2016, which is down from the number of road deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Officials said between Dec. 31 and Jan. 3, three people were killed on U.S. routes, S.C. roads and secondary roads, down from eight during the same time period in 2015.
In two of the deaths reported, a seat belt was not used and the third death was recorded as a pedestrian.
As of midnight Jan. 3, one pedestrian has died, compared to one during the same time period in 2015. No motorcyclists have died in 2016, compared to two who were killed in the same time period in 2015, and no bicyclists have died in 2016, which is the same for the number of bicyclists killed by this time in 2015.
Officials said the numbers recorded through midnight on Jan. 3 are preliminary and are subject to change.
