Check your tickets: $100,000 Powerball ticket sold at Irmo convenient store
One lucky individual has started 2016 off right after a winning $100,000 Powerball ticket was sold in Irmo on Saturday, according to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
Officials said the winner, who is still unknown at this time, purchased at the JP Mart store on Lake Murray Boulevard in Irmo, officials said. The winning ticket holder also stands to benefit from changes to the Powerball game that occurred in October.
Instead of a $10,000 prize for matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball number with PowerPlay, the prize jumped to $50,000. Since the player also purchased the PowerPlay for an additional $1, their $50,000 prize doubled after a “2” multiplier was selected, officials said.
The Powerball numbers that were drawn on Saturday, Jan. 2, are: 5, 6, 15, 29 and 42 Powerball: 10.
The odds of matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball number are one in 913,129, and the odds of a two-times multiplier being selected are one in 1.75.
Officials are urging players to check their tickets, because more than 32,000 players in South Carolina are holding tickets fetching anywhere from $4 to $1 million. Officials said one $1 million ticket was sold in North Charleston at the Kwik Shop on North Rhett Avenue.
The estimated jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing is $400 million, which is the sixth largest Powerball jackpot, according to officials. Odds in winning the jackpot are one in 293 million.
