A public hearing on a plan to bring nearly 300 apartments and commercial shops to the former Cardinal Newman School site in Forest Acres has been tentatively scheduled for early February.

Forest Acres City Council's hearing is set for 5:15 p.m. Feb. 9 at nearby A.C. Flora High School, according to the city's website.

City Council will not take action at the meeting, City Administrator Mark Williams said. That will likely happen in March, he said.

The proposed $60 million project has stirred concern. Some residents say the traffic from the development would worsen congestion on Forest Drive.

Supporters contend the mixed-use development would be preferable to other alternatives.
