The Powerball jackpot reached a world-record $1.5 billion on Tuesday with South Carolinians buying a month’s worth of tickets in a day.

Jackpot: $1.5 billion, or $930 million in a one-time cash payment — before taxes

How it works: Choose five numbers between 1 and 69, and one number between 1 and 26; for details, go to sceducationlottery.com

Tickets: $2 each; half of ticket proceeds go to the state for education and sales commissions, the other half goes to the prize pool

Drawing: 10:59 p.m. Wednesday
