Orangeburg County deputies have charged two men in connection with an armed robbery that took place at a student apartment complex in Orangeburg Tuesday evening, officials said.
Deputies went to the Campus Corner apartment complex just before 10 p.m. after a witness reported an armed robbery was in progress at one of the apartments, Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said.
The apartment complex is marketed to South Carolina State and Claflin university students, according to the complex’s website. Ravenell did not say if the two suspects were university students.
When deputies arrived, they heard gunfire coming from the apartment, Ravenell said. Deputies ordered everyone in the apartment to go outside, which is when three suspects ran away.

Two of them were caught. A third escaped, Ravenell said. Deputies charged Tyronne Stevenson, 22, and Dondre Givens, 23, with first-degree burglary and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Deputies, with the help of Orangeburg Department of Public Safety and South Carolina State University officers, were able to recover a handgun and an assault-type rifle from the scene, the sheriff said.
Bond was denied for both men at a Wednesday hearing, Ravenell said.
Deputies are continuing to search for the third suspect and ask that anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect to call the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 534-3550, or Crimestoppers at 1 (888)-CRIME-SC.
