Lexington County coroner identifies victim in fatal crash
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim who was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.
Coroner Margaret Fisher said 33-year-old Jovlyn Furtick, of Ladson, was killed after sustaining head trauma in the collision.
Fisher said Furtick was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the crash.
S.C. Highway Patrol officials initially reported that a vehicle, later identified as Furtick’s vehicle, was traveling west on S.C. 302 and ran off the left side of the road just after 3 a.m., according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. The vehicle, a 2013 Chrysler Sedan, struck a guide wire to a utility pole and overturned several times, ejecting the driver.
Furtick was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, officials say.
The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating.
