Lexington County disaster recovery center to close Friday
The last remaining disaster recovery center in Lexington County will close this week as federal disaster officials continue to pull out of South Carolina after the historic October rainfalls and floods.
The center at the Irmo Library at 6251 St. Andrews Road will close Friday at 6 p.m. Just one Richland County center remains, at the library branch at 7421 Garners Ferry Road.
The disaster recovery centers have allowed affected residents to meet with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration and other agencies. They close after receiving only a few visits over consecutive days, officials have said.
Just four of the 32 disaster centers that opened statewide will remain open through the end of the week, said Derrec Becker, a spokesman for the S.C. Emergency Management Division.
