Lexington County coroner identifies bicyclist killed in collision Thursday morning

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim who was killed in a bicycle-vehicle collision in Cayce Thursday morning.

Coroner Maragaret Fisher said 31-year-old Erica Lorraine Bass, of West Columbia, was riding her bicycle in the 3900 block of the 12th Street Exit between SCANA Highway and Saxe Gotha Road when she was struck from behind by a vehicle just after 6:45 a.m..

Fisher said Bass was pronounced dead at the scene of collision as a result of the injuries she sustained. Results from an autopsy revealed that Bass died as a result of upper body trauma.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital to receive medical treatment, but Fisher said her condition is unknown at this time.

Fisher said the Cayce Police Department, South Carolina Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office will continue to investigate the collision.
