Columbia gets $25,000 grant to help fight childhood obesity
The city of Columbia won a $25,000 grant for its child obesity prevention program, the U.S. Conference of Mayors announced Thursday.
Columbia ranked second in the nation among medium-size cities, coming in behind Fontana, Calif., which was awarded $120,000, the organization of mayors said in a news release.
Columbia also ranked among six cities recognized for their mayor-based prevention programs.
Awards went to cities with outstanding programs that encourage healthy weight through balanced diet choices and regular physical activity.
