Citizens with questions for Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott will get a chance to sit down with him on April 2.

Lott has hosted conferences between the department and Richland County residents every four years since he took office, said sheriff’s spokesman Curtis Wilson. The 2016 Summit on 21st Century Policing is slated for 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday at the Medallion Conference Center, at 7309 Garners Ferry Road.

The sheriff will discuss successes and challenges of the past year, and explain what went into decisions he made over the course of 2015, Wilson said. Several divisions within the department, such as the Community Action Team and school resource officers, also will attend.

There will be breakout sessions where residents can bring up things going on in their own communities.

“It’s more one on one – an opportunity for them to dive into what they have concerns about,” Wilson said.

The sheriff also will discuss plans for the future, programs offered by the sheriff’s department and recommendations for law enforcement made by the President’s Task Force.
