Columbia police searching for Five Points assault suspect

Columbia Police Department

Columbia investigators are requesting the community’s assistance in identifying a suspect who assaulted a victim in Five Points early Thursday morning.

Police Chief Skip Holbrook said a verbal altercation took place at 2 a.m. in the 2000 block of Greene Street between the suspect and the victim. The suspect is alleged to have punched the victim in the head, causing him to fall and hit his head on the concrete.

Holbrook said the victim was transported to a local hospital and is in critical but stable condition.

Surveillance cameras in the area captured photos of the alleged suspect, Holbrook said. The suspect is described as a white male with brown hair and was last seen wearing a dark-colored “puffer” jacket.

If anyone has information regarding the identity of the suspect, they are urged to call Crimestoppers at 1 (888)-CRIME-SC.
