Ten months after an Anderson man was found shot to death in his home, his neighbor has been charged with his murder.
Ralph James Kay, 53, 215 E. Roosevelt Drive, Anderson, has been charged with murder in the death of Gerald Craig Freeman in March 2015, according to a warrant.
Freeman was found dead on March 29 in his home at 111 Corning Street in Anderson. He had been shot multiple times, said Capt. Garland Major with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. An arrest warrant for Kay says Freeman died on March 27th and Major said that was the last time he had been seen.
Investigators say they collected evidence that connected Kay to the crime, Major said.

A warrant states that Freeman’s DNA was found on Kay’s footwear along with physical evidence at the crime scene.
Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said that the lengthy time lag between the crime and arrest was due to investigators having all facts collected before they made an arrest. He praised his investigators’ patience and tenacity that paid off in this sort of “whodunit case.”
"Investigators often put in just as much time behind the scenes waiting on laboratory reports as they do conducting interviews," Skipper said in a statement.
Kay was being held without bond in the Anderson County Detention Center on Sunday.
