The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the suspect who was shot and killed during an armed robbery attempt at the Next Up Barber and Beauty shop Friday evening.
Coroner Gary Watts said Adeyemi Herschelle Hannibal, 35, of New Jersey, died from complications of multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.
Watts said Hannibal and another suspect entered the barber shop located in the 4300 block of Fort Jackson Boulevard, near Devine Street, around 7 p.m. and attempted to rob the employees and patrons of the shop.
According to reports, one of the shop’s customers pulled out a concealed weapon and opened fire on Hannibal, striking him several times, and the second suspect. Both suspects ran from the building, but Hannibal collapsed a short time later. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
