Fire at Columbia apartment complex displaces two families

Two families were displaced from their homes after a fire broke out at an apartment complex early Friday morning, Columbia Fire Department officials said.

Officials said firefighters responded to the Hunter’s Ridge Apartments in the 1000 block of Springhouse Drive, near Zimalcrest Drive off Broad River Road, in reference to a structure fire at around 4:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, officials said smoke and fire were could be seen coming from the roof. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire shortly after their arrival.

Officials said there were no injuries reported from the fire, and the Richland County Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.

American Red Cross officials said they are helping the families that were displaced by providing financial assistance for food, clothing, temporary lodging and other living essentials.
