Lexington mayor to outline plans for moving traffic, boosting downtown
Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall will outline plans to reduce traffic congestion and revitalize Main Street in his annual speech Monday setting Town Hall’s agenda for 2016.
MacDougall is expected to celebrate the start of a digital network of traffic signals designed to keep vehicles moving on main roads. That network is slated to be in place at 35 intersections at the end of 2017, compared with five today.
Plans also call for completion of an outdoor amphitheater for concerts and other events, a project designed to help attract attention that makes the area a commercial hub again. Work is due to be finished by late spring.
MacDougall will speak at the start of the Town Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday. His remarks can be viewed on demand at www.lexsc.com.
