Two killed on S.C. roadways over the weekend
South Carolina Department of Public Safety officials said there were two road deaths reported over the weekend.
Officials said the two people were killed on U.S. routes, S.C. roads and secondary roads. One of the deaths was recorded as a pedestrian.
The other recorded death occurred while the victim was wearing a seat belt.
As of Jan. 31, 54 people have died on state highways, compared to 71 highways deaths during the same time period in 2015. Of the 36 motor-vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 22 were not wearing seat belts.
Eight pedestrians have been killed compared to 14 during the same time period in 2015. Five motorcyclist have been killed compared to four in 2015. Three bicyclists have died in 2016 compared to one this time in 2015.
