Sumter police searching for attempted murder suspect

Sumter police are requesting the community’s assistance in locating a suspect they say was involved in a shooting Tuesday afternoon that wounded one.

Officials said 22-year-old Trey Lorenzo Ward, of Sumter, is wanted for attempted murder in connection with the shooting.

Officials said a couple were sitting in a parked car at a Guignard Drive convenience store just after 3 p.m., when Ward allegedly came up to their vehicle and robbed them at gunpoint.

Before Ward fled the scene, officials said he shot the male victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he received treatment for non life-threatening injuries. The female victim was not harmed during the shooting, officials said.
