Gills Creek greenway public info meeting this Thursday
The public will have a chance to give input and receive information this week about a proposed greenway along Gills Creek.
The proposed greenway, one of three along Gills Creek to be paid for by the Richland County transportation penny sales tax, would stretch from Bluff Road to the south end of Lake Katherine and include boardwalks, picnic areas, meadows, overlook decks and mulch wilderness trails, among other possible features.
The Gills Creek projects were planned before October’s flooding. Work on them will be coordinated with the county’s ongoing flood recovery efforts, but they are separate projects and will not be funded by flood recovery funds.
A public meeting on the project will be held Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Brennen Elementary School.
Project managers and representatives from the Gills Creek Watershed Association will be present to provide information about the project.
The public may submit comments on the project at the meeting. Written comments also can be mailed to the Richland Penny Program at P.O. Box 3427 Columbia, 29230, emailed to info@richlandpenny.com, or faxed to (803) 779-4562 from Feb. 11 to Feb. 26.
