Sumter parents charged after infant suffered from multiple broken bones
Sumter police charged a mother and father after their infant child suffered from multiple bone fractures, officials said.
Police Chief Russell Roark said 20-year-old Alicia Nicole Anderson and 22-year-old Adam Justin Little, both of Sumter, were charged with unlawful conduct toward a child in connection with the investigation.
Roark said officers were notified by the Department of Social Services sometime last week that a 9-week-old child was brought to a local hospital with a broken femur. Further examination of the infant found that the child also suffered from several other fractures, which were in various stages of healing.
Both Anderson and Little were transported to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center where they will be held pending a bond hearing.
The child is expected to make a full recovery and has been placed in emergency protective custody, Roark said.
Sumter police will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s injuries.
