Airport High School to resume normal schedule Thursday, some classes to be relocated
Airport High School will resume a normal class schedule on Thursday after an electrical fire sent students home early on Wednesday.
Lexington 2 School District officials began dismissing students at 11 a.m. after a fire broke out in a HVAC unit on 700 hall vocational wing of the school. Fire damage was limited to the 700 hall vocational wing, district officials said Wednesday afternoon.
Classes held in the 700 hall will be temporarily relocated, school officials said. Students will be directed where to go for class when they arrive at school on Thursday.
Cayce Department of Public Safety officials said they were dispatched to a structure fire call at the school, located in the 1300 block of Boston Avenue in Springdale, just before 9:30 a.m.
Officials said the fire was reported on the rooftop of the 700 vocation wing of the school. Students and faculty were evacuated as a precaution and transported to the nearby middle school by bus because of the cold weather. No injuries were reported.
