Deputies charge Camden man with trafficking after finding 2 ounces of heroin, other drugs
A Camden man is facing drug trafficking charges after Kershaw County deputies discovered he had 2 ounces of heroin and other drugs in his possession, sheriff’s office officials said.
Sheriff Jim Matthews said 32-year-old Ronald Jason Boone has been charged with trafficking heroin, distribution of heroin, distribution of heroin within proximity to a school, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a schedule IV controlled substance.
Matthews said that narcotics investigators have been receiving information for several years that Boone was selling heroin in the county. Investigators were able to make a controlled purchase of heroin from Boone in January and continued to watch Boone’s activities through February, which is when Boone received a large shipment of heroin.
On Feb. 4, Matthews said investigators were conducting surveillance in East Camden when they spotted Boone traveling in a vehicle with another person. With an arrest warrant in hand, Matthews said the investigators followed Boone to his residence and took him into custody.
Upon further investigation, Matthews said investigators were able to locate the 2 ounces of heroin and 1.5 ounces of marijuana and 13 Xanax pills for which he had no prescription.
Boone was transported to the Kershaw County Detention Center where he is being held after a $200,000 bond was set for his release. If found guilt, Matthews said Boone faces a maximum of 40 years in prison for the trafficking charge alone.
Matthews said Boone has previously been arrested for numerous narcotics violations since 2003 as well as multiple counts of receiving stolen good, possession of a stolen vehicle, driving under suspension, driving under the influence and muliple counts of shoplifting
