A Florence County correctional officer was charged Thursday after she allegedly had a relationship with one of the inmates at the Florence County Detention Center.

Sheriff Kenney Boone said 31-year-old Bridgette Yvonne Jackson, of Effingham, was charged with misconduct in office and was booked into the Florence County Detention Center.

Boone said investigators discovered that in January and February, Jackson allegedly had an “inappropriate relationship” with one of the inmates at the detention center.

Jackson was released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond and has been fired from her position with the detention center, Boone said.
