Eight killed on S.C. roadways over the weekend
South Carolina Department of Public Safety officials said there were eight road deaths reported over the weekend.
Officials said six of the deaths occurred on U.S. routes, S.C. roads and secondary roads, while the other two deaths occurred on county roads.
In two of the deaths, officials said a seat belt was used, while in the other six a seat belt was not used.
As of Feb. 15, 92 people have died on state highways, compared to 120 highways deaths during the same time period in 2015. Of the 65 motor-vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 35 were not wearing seat belts.
Fourteen pedestrians have been killed compared to 21 during the same time period in 2015. Six motorcyclist have been killed compared to nine in 2015. Four bicyclists have died in 2016 compared to two this time in 2015.
