SLED: Georgia couple stole $2 million from Jasper County car dealership
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division officials said a Jesup, Ga. couple is facing several charges after they allegedly pilfered $2 million from a Jasper County auto dealership over a five year period.
SLED officials said 54-year-old Deanna Ogden has been charged with nine felony counts of breach of trust with fraudulent intent, value $10,000, or more. Each count carries a maximum penalty of a fine at the court’s discretion, or up to ten years in prison upon conviction.
Officials said Deanna Ogden’s 56-year-old husband David Ogden was also charged with three felony counts of receiving stolen goods, value $10,000 or more. Each count carries a maximum penalty of a fine of at least $2,000 or up to ten years in prison upon conviction.
According to SLED arrest warrants filed in the investigation, Deanna Ogden was employed as an assistant comptroller by O.C. Welch Ford Lincoln, based in Hardeeville, and would write fraudulent checks for thousands of dollars to pay for her personal credit card.
David Ogden would then use the credit cards to make numerous purchases, knowing he nor his wife had the sufficient legitimate income to cover the expenses, the warrant alleges.
From June 25, 2008 to Oct. 14, 2015, the couple allegedly managed to steal upwards of $2 million from the dealership.
Both Deanna and David Ogden are being held at the Jasper County Detention Center.
