Rain for Columbia until Wednesday night, sun through weekend

As temperatures climb and shake off the wintry feel in Columbia, it seems the capital city can’t come out from under its all-too-familiar rain cloud.

The National Weather Service said Monday will bring a high of 65 with an 80 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, which are predicted to drop rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch. The chance of rain doesn’t let up Monday night as a low of 51 settles in but still carrying an 80 percent chance of rain.

Tuesday will be a little colder, with a high of 55, and rain is likely, with an 80 percent chance of a tenth and quarter of an inch of rainfall possible. Tuesday night is expected to have a low of 51, with a 60 percent chance of rain, officials predict.

Wednesday, again, will bring an 80 percent chance of rain throughout the day, with a high of 72. That chance of rain drops to 30 percent going into Wednesday night.

Thursday, however, promises to be mostly sunny and breezy with a high around 54 and a low of 34. That sunshine is expected to carry on throughout the weekend, with the highs hovering around the mid-50s.
