Weather officials warn of severe weather in the Midlands today
As a storm system moves its way through the Midlands onWednesday, National Weather Service officials issued a hazardous weather outlook saying there is a chance of severe thunderstorms and isolated tornadoes.
Officials say risk of severe thunderstorms and possibly tornadoes increases for the Midlands around daybreak Wednesday and continues through the day. A wind advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. Wednesday through Thursday at 7 p.m.
Wednesday brings a high near 72 and a 100 percent chance of severe thunderstorms, mainly before 4 p.m., officials predict. The storms could produce damaging winds of up to 46 miles per hour as a strong upper-level system moves through the area. Officials said the pattern supports the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
Heavy rain and hail might also occur Wednesday, officials said.
The chance of severe thunderstorms will continue into Wednesday evening but drops to a 30 percent chance before 9 p.m.
Even though the severe weather will dissipate Thursday, a lake wind advisory will be in effect throughout the day Thursday and into Thursday night.
