Carter named West Columbia administrator

Brian Carter becomes city administrator in West Columbia March 2.

He was chosen by City Council members to succeed Jennifer Cunningham, who is retiring.

Carter recently played a key role in shaping a plan for a new residential and commercial development overlooking the Congaree River.

“I am humbled and excited to serve this city council and community,” he said.

Carter has been Cunningham’s top aide in recent months after serving as city planning director. He came to West Columbia in 1998 as a police officer.
