Hundreds apply to adopt Brody the injured puppy

The nonprofit agency handling the adoption of a puppy shot 18 times with a BB gun in Rock Hill has received hundreds of applications from people interested in adopting the dog.

Brody, a 6-week-old black Lab mix, was found at an apartment complex on Springdale Road Sunday afternoon. Police said he was bleeding heavily from multiple wounds, and took him to Ebenezer Animal Hospital. Investigators determined he had been abandoned.

Less than 24 hours after Brody’s story was first reported online, Project Safe Pet, which is handling Brody’s adoption, received “hundreds” of applications from people interested in adopting the dog, Ebenezer Animal Hospital staff said in a Facebook post Tuesday.

“As such, they will no longer be taking applications for this little man,” the hospital said.

Project Safe Pet, a nonprofit based in Lake Wylie, provides a safe environment for dogs coming out of neglect, abuse or county animal facilities before they’re transported to a waiting rescue or out-of-state home. Officials say there are other animals like Brody that need a loving home, and the animal hospital encouraged residents to look into helping out one of the animals at Project Safe Pet or other local rescue groups.

A spokesman for Project Safe Pet could not be immediately reached for comment.
