Lexington County coroner identifies victim allegedly shot, killed by Greg Leon

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim who was allegedly shot and killed by Lexington restaurateur Greg Leon on Valentine’s Day.

Coroner Margaret Fisher said 28-year-old Arturo Bravo Santos, of Columbia, died after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

After weeks of attempting to track down Santos’ identification, Fisher said she was positively identifying him as the victim of the shooting with the assistance of the Mexican Consulate and a family member living in the area.

Lexington police charged Leon with murder, attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with the shooting.

Police were dispatched to a park and ride facility located at 110 Riverchase Way in Lexington just after 8:30 p.m. after receiving a call from Leon stating, “I shot my wife’s lover,” arrest warrants said.

The shooting victim was in the rear seat of a Toyota Tundra pickup when he was struck by “multiple bullets” from a handgun, a warrant said. Leon’s wife was in the back seat with the man, but “none of the bullets fired struck Ms. Leon,” a warrant said.

Leon was granted a $500,00 surety bond in the days following the shooting, but he will remain in jail for now because of a hold placed on him because Leon was on federal probation when the shooting occurred.

His wife, Maria, asked that he be let out of jail, saying he was not dangerous.

A federal judge will have to review the case and decide whether Leon should be released, Leon’s attorney Dick Harpootlian said.
