One dead following industrial accident at USDOT freight-shipping hub

One person is dead following an industrial accident at a freight-shipping hub for the U.S. Department of Transportation Wednesday afternoon, officials said

Columbia Fire Department’s Brick Lewis said firefighters were dispatched to 1333 Pineview Drive, off Bluff Road, to a crushing industrial accident at around 12:30 p.m.

Coroner Gary Watts said his deputies are still on scene working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The location is home to the Utility Group of South Carolina, which is listed as a freight-shipping hub under the U.S. DOT.
