Police: 1 dead, 1 injured in mid-day shooting in Rock Hill

Police are on the scene where one person died and anther was injured in a mid-day shooting near downtown Rock Hill.

The victims — both males — were found in a car on Cauthen Street shortly after reports of shots fired on nearby Keels Avenue. The car had several bullet holes in it when police arrived.

The injured man has been taken to Piedmont Medical Center. Authorities said there was a third man in the car who was not injured.

“Right now, we have as many questions as you folks and the public have,” Rock Hill Police Capt. Mark Bollinger said during a media briefing at 1:45 p.m.

A neighbor said he heard six or seven gunshots around 12:30 p.m. Witnesses told police a man ran from the scene. A dark car was also seen fleeing.

A heavy police presence can be seen on Black Street near South Jones Avenue. Black Street and a portion of Keels Avenue are blocked off to traffic.

Police found several shell casings along Keels Avenue.

Bloodhounds have arrived to help with the investigation.

This is the fourth shooting in Rock Hill in less than 24 hours. Police have not said if this incident is connected to the three shootings reported Thursday night in Rock Hill. Three people were injured in one of the shootings.
