Deputies witness assault following car wreck, make arrest
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man suspected of crashing into another drive and then assaulting the victim.
Deputies responded to the 3600 block of Hearn Drive at 6 p.m. Wednesday and located Cedric McCoy nearby at the corner of Shakespeare Road and Judy Street, according to a news release. McCoy was allegedly striking the victim in the upper body.
Deputies determined McCoy, 48, crashed his vehicle into the victim’s vehicle, which had two small children inside.
EMS transported the victim to Palmetto Health Richland for non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was transported to Providence Northeast Hospital by a separated EMS unit.
Deputies arrested McCoy and charged him with criminal domestic violence high and aggravated, two counts of assault and battery high and aggravated and assault and battery in the second degree.
