Parade Saturday means detours, delays in downtown Lexington

Motorists will encounter delays and detours Saturday during the first St. Patrick's Day parade in downtown Lexington.

Road closures and detours will start at noon and last for several hours during the parade celebrating Irish heritage as well as preparation before it and breakdown afterward, Police Chief Terrence Green said.

The parade starts at 2 p.m. and is expected to be finished by 3:30 p.m. It will start on Haygood Street, then travel on West Main Street and North Lake Drive, ending on West Butler Street.

Parking for parade-goers also may be at a premium, Green said.
