Lexington firefighters rescue woman, dog from well

LEXINGTON, SC Firefighters rappelled down a 30-foot well near Lake Murray last weekend after a woman attempted to retrieve her dog who had fallen in.

Lexington Fire Service units responded to the 100 block of Yachting Circle, off Yachting Road, about 6 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a person who was stuck in a well.

Firefighters located a woman who had fallen down the well in an attempt to retrieve her dog, who had fallen down first.

After deeming air conditions safe inside the well, crews rigged a haul-and-lowering system, which rock climbers commonly use in rescue situations. A firefighter was lowered into the well and secured the woman and her dog.

Officials reported no injuries during the incident.
