UPDATE: Victim of Lexington County house fire identified

A 54-year-old West Columbia woman was identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher as the victim of a house fire Saturday morning in Springdale.

The body of Wanda Yates Adkins and a pet were found in the home on the 900 block of Jupiter Street by firefighters who arrived around 7:30 a.m. to find smoke and fire coming from the roof.

Two other victims, both females, escaped the blaze. They were waiting outside the house when firefighters arrived. One was taken to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, Fisher said. The other was turned over to family members.

Springdale police and the State Law Enforcement Division are investigating the cause of the fire. An autopsy will be performed on Sunday to determine the cause of death, Fisher said.
