Prescribed burns to take place in Lexington, Newberry counties

Lexington County fire officials said two prescribed burns expected this afternoon in Lexington and Newberry counties may cause smoke in residential areas.

The first prescribed burn will include three acres on Neely Wingard Road in the Fairview area of Lexington County.

The second burn is a 120-acre hazard-reduction burn in Newberry County, with northwest winds possibly pushing smoke into Lexington County.

Officials from the Lexington County Fire Service is asking residents to be aware of possible smoke conditions late this afternoon around the Lake Murray, Chapin, Irmo and Lexington areas.
