13-year-old go-kart driver killed in collision near Bluff Road
A 13-year-old is dead after a crash not far from Bluff Road in Gadsden on Monday evening.
A pickup truck traveling west on Goodwin Road struck a go-kart traveling south on Goodwin Way as the go-kart attempted to turn onto Goodwin Road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The wreck happened at about 7:55 p.m.,
The driver of the go-kart was Jelani Carter of Gadsden, according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.
Carter was transported to Palmetto Health Richland and died from head and chest trauma, Watts said.
The teenager was not wearing a helmet, according to Highway Patrol.
The driver of the pickup truck was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, officials said.
Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
