Richland County District 10 special election filing opens April 1

Candidate filing for the interim representative to fill Kelvin Washington’s vacated Richland County Council District 10 seat will open next Friday.

Gov. Nikki Haley last week removed Washington from his seat after determining his failure to file income taxes for three years to be a crime of moral turpitude.

Candidates for the District 10 special election may file between noon April 1 and noon April 11 at the Richland County Voter Registration and Elections office at 2020 Hampton St. in Columbia.

The District 10 special election schedule is:

May 31 – primary election

June 14 – runoff election, if necessary

July 19 – general election, if candidates from both parties file
