Suspect in custody after motorist shot from bridge early Wednesday on I-20
Lexington County authorities have made an arrest after shots were fired at vehicles traveling east on Interstate 20 in southwest Lexington County early Wednesday morning, sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Adam Myrick said.
The identity of the suspect taken into custody was not released on Wednesday. Extra patrols will provide a “very visible presence in the area” overnight, Myrick said as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident which resulted in multiple vehicles being hit by gunfire.
A SC Transport Police officer discovered one gunshot wound victim after checking on a car that was parked along I-20, Myrick said.
After being taken to a local hospital, that person was in stable condition Wednesday night, Myrick said.
The shots came from the Quattlebaum Road bridge over I-20 in a remote western edge of Lexington County in the Pond Branch area.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department continues to encourage anyone with information about the shooting to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
“We are hopeful someone might have seen or heard anything different or unusual,” he said.
More details will be reported as they become available.
