Columbia police search for driver in hit-and-run attempted murder investigation

Police are searching for a woman they say tried to run over another woman with a vehicle after an argument early Sunday.

The incident happened shortly after 2 a.m. in a restaurant parking lot at 700 Harden St., according to the Columbia Police Department. It’s being investigated as a hit-and-run and attempted murder.

Witnesses told police the female suspect and the 18-year-old victim argued moments before the incident. There was also a large fight between several people, which detectives are still investigating.

Surveillance video shows the suspect driving toward the victim, striking her with the car and dragging her for several yards before speeding away from the scene, according to the police department.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries, including road rash. She was in stable condition Sunday afternoon, according to the police department.

A male victim was also struck by the car but was not seriously injured, officials said.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 888-Crime-SC or by texting to CRIMES and starting the text message with “TIPSC.” Citizens can also go to www.midlandscrimestoppers.com and click on the “submit a tip” tab.
