Second suspect charged in I-20 shootings in Lexington County
A second person has been charged in last week’s shooting of three cars on I-20 in Lexington County, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
Brandon Coleman, 22, faces seven counts of attempted murder after shots from a pistol were fired early Wednesday at eastbound traffic on I-20 from the Quattlebaum Road bridge, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department. One person was hit but the injuries weren’t serious.
A Batesburg-Leesville teenager, Kyle Pratt, 17, was arrested Wednesday. He also was charged with seven counts of attempted murder.
Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said an investigation determined “Coleman was with Kyle Pratt in the early morning hours of March 30 when shots were fired from the bridge down onto the interstate.”
The suspects face seven counts of attempted murder because that’s the number of people who were in the three cars hit by bullets, Koon said.
Coleman’s also charged with three counts of firing shots into a vehicle, one count of possessing a firearm during a violent crime and one count of possessing a firearm by person convicted of a violent crime.
Coleman’s being held in the Lexington County Detention Center after a judge denied bond Sunday morning.
Koon said an investigation continues into the shootings. Anyone with information about the case should call Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC. Anonymous tips can be submitted at www.LexingtonSheriff.com.
